wedding crafts

I can hardly believe that we are getting down to the wire, just a little over a month away! Luke and I had a busy weekend filled with cutting, sanding, painting, and gluing. We spent the majority of Saturday in the shop making signs for the wedding - really getting in touch with our shabby chic side!

It was a lot of fun using old scraps of wood for our wedding projects. I am all about DIY these days. Thank goodness for my fabulous contractor/project manager who helped turn my DIY visions into reality. I truly am such a lucky girl to be marrying this man.

To all those driving to the wedding via the directions provided in the invitation, follow the hearts! Once you get off 101, the hearts will show you the way.

Remember how I was collecting corks? Well I’m happy to report that thanks to all you winos out there, we had PLENTY of corks to complete our cork project, which is how we spent our Saturday night, along with some episodes of Dexter and wine of course!

Success!

We had such a fun time with our DIY projects and it felt really good to check a few more things off the list.
forever

Sunday we woke up to rain, RAIN?! Such strange weather all weekend, but I didn’t let that slow me down. I met up with a girlfriend who is also planning a wedding and we went to the Bridal Show at the Wells Fargo Center. GOOD LORD – so many brides, so many vendors, so overwhelming. But I’m glad I went, it certainly was an experience.

Still no dress, thought you might like to know. BUT, word on the street is it should be here soon. And I can't wait to see it. Seriously.

new kicks and pizza pie

Luke’s dog, Ellie, lives with Luke’s parents most of the time, however she is  staying with us for the month of September. It is such a treat having her around. No matter how bad your day was, all your troubles instantly melt away after being greeted by Ellie. She is cooped up all day in the yard so we try to take her for a walk/run when we get home from work. The gorgeous weather and amazing evenings we have been having makes our daily strolls that much more enjoyable. Well, last week after putting in quite a few miles, Luke decides it is time for a new pair of running shoes which makes me think I could probably use a new pair as well! So on Friday after work, we met at Heart & Sole, a local running store in Santa Rosa. They analyze your feet and videotape you jogging on a treadmill to see how your feet strike the ground when you run. We both walked out of there with a great pair of new kicks perfect not only for the shape of our feet but also for our personal running stride. The sales associate helping us asked if we were training for anything. Our response was, no, just training for life J (and ski season of course!). By the time we left the store we were pretty hungry (all this talk of running really worked up our appetite) so we decided to try the pizza place next door called I Love NY Pie. The family who owns it is from New York and Luke and I both agreed it was the BEST PIZZA we have ever had! Our waitress said the medium would be enough for us so we decided to order the large to have leftovers. Well, so much for leftovers, we ate almost the entire large pizza – we did manage to save one slice for leftovers! Naturally we justified eating so much by saying that really it wasn’t so bad because the crust was so thin…..right. I can’t believe I lived three blocks away for 2 years and never tried this place. AMAZING! If you live in the area, definitely worth checking out. FYI - Monday nights it’s buy one pizza, get the second ½ off.

The next morning, I took Ellie and my new kicks out for a 6 mile run to burn off all that NY pizza pie.

dance party - young style

September 23 marks the official first day of Fall, but Labor Day weekend always feels like the end of summer to me. I love love love this time of year with Indian summer in full swing, the leaves changing color, and pumpkin spice filling the air. I always knew I wanted a Fall wedding and I can hardly believe it is just a few short weeks away.

With less than 2 months left before the big day, we have just about everything organized and booked. We have a few more meetings with vendors to tighten up the details and I’m pretty sure the meeting we are both looking forward to most is the one with our DJ to decide on our dance play list. I have already told our DJ I want a DANCE PARTY at the wedding – so prepare yourselves and bring your dancing shoes! Luke and I have been trying to think of songs that have the word “Young” in them to play at the wedding as a fun way to celebrate my new last name and our union as Mr. and Mrs. Young. We have come up with a few, but could use your help!

Thanks to my cousin, J Murph, for suggesting Kenny Chesney’s song, Young.
Thanks to my sis for suggesting Teach Me How to Dougie – apparently it says the word “young” in the song – perfect!

Can you think of any others? Let me know! Also, if you have a burning desire to hear any special songs, let me know. We are meeting with the DJ early October so send me your requests before then.

next month

I received an email from a friend today mentioning how excited they are to see me next month. When I read that, I thought to myself, “Next month, what is next month? The wedding isn’t next month…” Then I realized, oh my goodness, the wedding IS next month! How did that happen?! Labor Day is Monday which marks the end of summer which is just crazy. This year is flying by!

I’m anxiously waiting for the arrival of my dress which isn’t expected until end of the month. Hopefully that will give me just enough time for alterations (optimistically hoping I won’t need any hahaha) and to find the perfect pair of shoes. Although I might just break out my cowboy boots and rock those (cute, comfortable, and people won’t be able to see my shoes anyways under the dress!).

Side note: I’m kind of loving this song right now. Don’t be surprised if you hear it at the wedding.

Enjoy this last holiday weekend of summer!
